Food high in fat to be banned from UK schools.
UK has decided to apply new standards to school nutrition by removing foods high in fat, sugar and salt from canteens and vending machines.
Education Secretary Ruth Kelly wants to apply a ban that will put an end to the “scandal” of children on junk food diets. The new standards that will be applied to schools across the UK will be announced by the school meals review panel. Vending machines will have to stock healthier products such as milk and fresh non-fat products. Earlier this year Ms Kelly promised £280 million for improving school meals, kitchens and food ingredients.
France have also been trying to fight child obesity and poor nutrition and are trying to ban vending machines across the country. The law that was applied earlier this month prohibits the sale of any food or drink, from fruit and bottled water to Pepsi and sweet Bars, via automatic vending machines
